    Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix

I was making something for lunch that called for ranch dressing mix. So I figured I must be able to make my own, rather than buying a version that was full of chemicals. So I found this post on I Believe I Can Fry (ha!) and was intrigued. I've never heard of powdered buttermilk before, and luckily there was a photo on the post so I could see what I was looking for at the store. I could only find a box with packets of dried buttermilk, so I had to cut the recipe in half. It smells like ranch dressing, and when combined with the ingredients for my lunch recipe, it sure tasted like ranch. This will be great to have on hand for salad dressing without all the junk. I'll definitely report back when I make regular ranch with it.

    I Believe I Can Fry

    1 cup powdered buttermilk
    2 tablespoon dried parsley
    1 tablespoon dried chives
    2 teaspoon dried minced onion
    2 teaspoon onion powder
    2 teaspoon garlic salt
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon dill weed
    1 teaspoon salt
    ½ teaspoon white pepper
    ½ teaspoon celery salt

Combine all of the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until powdered. Store in an air-tight container.

How much and what wet ingredient do you add when making the actual dressing? Thanks

Whisk together 1 1/2 tablespoons of mix with 1 cup of mayo and 1/2 cup milk and chill for 2 hours to let the flavors meld. I didn't chill it the first time I used it and it was still good, but definitely better after some time in the fridge. Enjoy!

Where do I find the powdered buttermilk? Specialty store? What brand?

I found it at the regular grocery store in the baking/spice aisle. The brand I found was SACO: http://sacofoods.com/products/view/cultured-buttermilk

I have made this several times and LOVE this dressing, thank you so much. My kids have asked for us to never buy store bought again...:-) Have a questions though, how long does it last in the fridge?

So glad you and your family enjoy it! I actually need to make this more often now that I have a toddler running around the house 🙂 The instructions for mixing it into dressing say "To make dressing, combine 1 1/2 Tbsp of mix with 1 cup of mayonnaise and 1/2 cup of milk. Whisk to combine, then chill for 2 hours to let the flavors meld.", so I'd say it will keep for as long as your milk is good. So if your milk expires in 2 weeks, I'd assume the dressing would be fine in the fridge for 2 weeks. Hope that helps!
