I wanted to make some festive cookies for a potluck this week, and when I saw these over on Cookie Madness, I just knew I had to try them out. I haven’t made our favorite Snickerdoodle recipe in quite some time, and the idea of twisting them up with ginger cookies just sounded fabulous. And it was!! Continue Reading →

This recipe came up in my feed reader at the perfect time – I had both cornmeal and buttermilk that I needed to use up. I was going to make another batch of Sweet Corn Muffins, but when I saw this festive cornbread recipe from Alejandra over at Always Order Dessert, I knew that I had to try it out. Continue Reading →

I had a stick of butter on the counter to make Snickerdoodles, but when I went to start mixing everything up, I realized that I didn’t have any shortening. So, a change of plan was in order. I sent an SOS message on facebook, and asked if anyone had any recommendations for a cookie recipe to make that would use a stick of butter and wouldn’t require a trip to the grocery store. I don’t cook on my anniversary usually. I mean, I cook almost every night, so I figure on my anniversary, I deserve a break. Dinner out. Yes indeed. However, this anniversary was not mine – it was a friend’s. Her husband and my husband were both working late because of the election (they work in TV), so when I found out she was going to be spending her anniversary alone, I invited her to spend it with me and my baby. I told her I was happy to have power back from the hurricane, and I’d be cooking! Continue Reading →

Back in June, I wrote about receiving a cookbook from my aunt that was published in 1922. I finally picked out a few candy recipes to try for this month’s Supper Club. Back in December, we did our annual cookie/candy exchange, but since our kitchen was a construction zone, we … Continue Reading →

Baked Tofu with Mustard-Honey Glaze

This was an easy and delicious meal to put together. I didn’t have peanut oil, so I substituted sesame oil. Also, instead of brushing the marinade on, I just poured it over the tofu, and stirred, and then stirred the whole thing halfway through the baking time. It’s a really sweet dish, so maybe something a little acidic would help. Continue Reading →

I’ve been sick with bronchitis, so I really wanted to make some soup. I didn’t have a lot in the house, so this is what I threw together. It turned out pretty good! My immersion blender is shot, so it wasn’t as smooth as I would have liked it to … Continue Reading →

This morning, I noticed that there were a few apples that needed to be used up. I decided to try to make an apple molasses compote as a topping for some pancakes and give Dino a break from being the weekend breakfast chef. It turned out really well. Sometimes the best recipes are put together with what you have laying around in your house! Continue Reading →
